The Murwillumbah Sporting Car Club (MSCC) has hosted its first event for the year, with the New South Wales based Club hosting a khanacross event in front of a big crowd of spectators.
A strong field of 25 competitors took part in the club’s season opener, which saw each driver get 12 runs of the special course at the Murwillumbah Showgrounds in what was a busy day.
With every run contributing to a participant’s final score, taking out top honours for the day was Andrew Bostock after the Holden Cruze driver picked up a total time of 664.79 seconds.
In what proved a dominant victory, Bostock was fastest on all 12 runs and was the only driver to go under 700 seconds, with the next best driver being Jude Livermore in the Nissan Pulsar.
Livermore himself ended the day with an impressive record; the junior driver came extremely close to winning a run on multiple occasions, with his eventual total time being a respectable 710 seconds.
The battle for second place was far closer as Mitsubishi Cordia driver Stuart McConville finished just 12 seconds off Livermore to round out the podium.
Just missing out on the podium was Harrison Bugg, the Subaru WRX pilot falling just short of third place by 11 seconds, while Aiden Boresch steered a Subaru Impreza to fifth place, a further 12 seconds off.
Although Livermore missed out on the win and Boresch an outright podium, the juniors still put on a show in an event focused on the development of young drivers, with 10 youngsters featuring in the event.
With the exception of Livermore, every junior was behind the wheel of a Subaru Impreza provided by the club itself as they handled the wet conditions without any major issues – as Jarrod Houben and Thomas Busbridge sneaking into the top 10.
Bostock (Class E), Livermore (Junior) and McConville (Class A/B) all took out top honours in their respective classes, while John Panozzo took out Class C/D in his Mitsubishi 380.

JUDE LIVERMORE, a local junior member of the Murwillumbah Sporting Car Club, has had a hugely successful year of motor racing.
He has won in both the senior and junior MSCC Khanacross events held at Murwillumbah Showground this year coming 3rd place in the seniors in March, 1st place in the seniors in June and 1st place in the juniors in August.
While competing at our sister club, Gold Coast Tweed Sporting Car Club Khanacross events held at Mount Tambourine, Jude won 4 trophies, including the G class Junior trophy with a clean sweep of 7 out of 7 class wins, B class under 2-litre front-wheel drive, 3rd place overall for the series (just behind 2 full rally prepped WRXs), and Junior Club Champion.
He even competed against Queensland Rally Championship cars and drivers and beat them for first places on 3 occasions. A great achievement for a young bloke.
As a 16 year old, Jude does not get to many opportunities to practice so he literally jumps in the car at race time and off he goes to win another race.
Next year, Jude hopes to compete in some hill climbs, rally cross events, track days, and of course more Khanacross events
From all the members of Murwillumbah Sporting Car Club, we congratulate Jude on a successful year and look forward to seeing how his racing and driving skills develop in the years to come.
MSCC Khanacross events and Young Driver Program will kick off again in February or March next year so visit our website at mscc.org.au to get all the latest event dates or to join our mailing list.

Robert Learmonth is a recipient of the 2021 Motorsport Sport Australia NSW Service Award.
The MSA State Service Award celebrates the achievements of those individuals in each state at the grass roots level of motorsport who go above and beyond each year in their service to the sport. Rob is currently the General and Competition Secretary of the Murwillumbah Sporting Car Club (MSCC). Responsible for the creation of the Club just on three years ago and the building of networks with like-minded individuals who have recognized the need for a club dedicated to Motorsport and the upskilling of junior drivers within the Tweed Shire. The Club is closely affiliated with MSA, which once was CAMS, in the co-ordination of its activities. We are hoping to build up a core of qualified motorsport officials for local and regional events. .
Rob has been involved in motorsport at all levels since the early 1980’s as a driver, club official and ardhent follower of the sport. Early years with the NSW Alfa Romeo Owners Club (1750 105 GTV and 1600 Guiia Sprint GT) and later with the Z Car Club QSLD in the early 2000’s (Datsun 240 Z and 260Z) locally and at Mount Panorama. He is now competing in a 1999 Subaru WRX. Rob currently officiates as a scrutineer at events including the 12 Hour, 6 Hour, Challenge Bathurst and at Morgan Park. .
Rob commented, “The MSCC is now over 40 members strong and is supported by local business through sponsorship. With over $30,000 in State, Federal and local grants, especially to support the Young Driver Program, the Club is well placed to meet its future goals. .
We work in with our sister Car Clubs including the Gold Coast Tweed Motorsport Club and Z Car Club Queensland in the staging of our events. The Tweed Valley Vehicle Restorers Club and Mount Warning Historic Auto Club also chip in and support many of our activities such as the Phil Bostock Memorial Fun Run and Show’n’Shine. .
I am greatly humbled by this award which has truly been a team effort especially from dedicated members within the Club Executive. .
Ranked among the Club’s ongoing achievements is our Young Driver Program. Although in its infancy it has really had such great support from the Murwillumbah community, State and Federal governments and local secondary schools. It is staffed by volunteers from our club and secondary school teaching staff”. .
